Moonlighter should satisfy all your Stardew Valley needs. During the day, you manage a shop, trading with customers and restocking shelves with that kind of mediocrity that soothes your brain. By night, however, you are a roguelike dungeon scavenger diving for items to sell in your shop. Are we forgetting to mention the incredible overarching storyline? Destiny and anguish are all present, as is some family drama. With a bit of Binding of Isaac and even some tongue-in-cheek Dark Souls references, it nails that wonderful gameplay loop of busywork that Stardew Valley excels at. Don’t be surprised if you become addicted to something new.

2. My Time at Portia

Available on: PC, Nintendo Switch
Price: $19.99 / £15.99

Games-Like-Stardew-Valley

It takes a bit more effort to get into My Time at Portia than Stardew Valley. You soon won’t care about that as the world is such a pleasant and rewarding place to be in. As for My Time at Portia, one good way to describe it would be to say that it’s like a cross between The Sims and Stardew, topped with Studio Ghibli-Esque graphics like a delicious sundae.

A big part of the appeal of this game is getting involved in the Portia community as much as farming or crafting. You must invite people into your inner circle if you want them to be your BFF. In addition to the quest for all the friends, you are always searching for new resources to use in your workshop and for the town as a whole. Have we already reached the end of the weekend?

3. Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor

Available on: PC
Price: $9.99 / £6.99

Games-Like-Stardew-Valley

Stardew Valley has quite a different tone from Diary of a Spaceport Janitor. It is a similar games like stardew valley. There is in fact much more darkness here. The story is not about sticking a middle finger to corporate greed or capitalism overall, but rather about a sentient trash incinerator on a spaceport. There is a way out for robots in space, despite them being bullied and unable to afford food. Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor isn’t exactly about farming, but it does follow the same principles, such as learning a town, making friends, and buying and selling food to stay healthy. That’ll drive you the same way in every way.

4. Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles

Available on: PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch
Price: $19.99 / £18.99 on PS4, $24.99 / £18.99 on PC , $26.99 / £22.99 on Switch

Yonder: The Cloudcatcher Chronicles would be basically what Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be if Nintendo removed all the enemies. It’s a very beautiful little game, which in some ways is very similar to Breath of the Wild, but it lacks the combat of the original. The narrative also isn’t too strong, although some quests do exist, so overall, it’s a lot more like Breath of the Wild than Stardew. The best part of Yonder is that it’s not limited to farming. Crafting, cooking, fishing, and brewing will also be included to increase your trading and endeavor options to keep the game going long after the visuals wear off.

5. Voodoo Garden

Available on: PC
Price: $2.99 / £1.99

Games-Like-Stardew-Valley

Voodoo Garden, a beautiful idle clicker farming sim, comes pretty close to Stardew Valley’s simplicity. This game requires you to cultivate and harvest ingredients to make voodoo potions and other recipes. Before you start planting anything in this game, you better know what you’re doing, from mushrooms to mushrooms, honey, snake fangs, and frog legs. Additionally, you can fatten up chickens and rabbits in your garden to use as ingredients or to sacrifice for other dark deeds. As long as it isn’t raining, the spirits of your departed loved ones can continue caring for your gardens after they’re gone. Rain apparently doesn’t appeal to ghosts. You can play it while watching Netflix. It’s a wonderful little clicker.

6. Farming Valley: Minecraft Modpack

Available on: PC
Price: Free (if you already have Minecraft)

The game Minecraft can be anything you want it to be. Creating in Minecraft is very much a way of life, and the community’s talent continues to grow to the point where you can actually transform it into Stardew Valley with a handy mod pack. Farming Valley is said mod pack, and it transforms Minecraft into a farming simulation capable of going nose-to-nose with Stardew and co. It is the Farming Goddess who guides you through the entire process of planting seasonal crops, watering them, selling goods via a shipment box, as well as recruiting NPCs to build a town. This is a completely different game from the base Minecraft. To make your Minecraft game a lot more like Stardew Valley, watch this helpful video from Khan on how to install it.

7. World’s Dawn

Games-Like-Stardew-Valley

It is similar to how Stardew Valley stays true to its source material. However, the gameplay is comparable to ConcernedApe’s version. Papillons can be bought and sold, fish can be caught, and festivals are celebrated to reignite a sad, tired village. A few quirks here and there, particularly the 4:3 aspect ratio, can be found, but it’s a very enjoyable game.

8. Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns

Available on: Nintendo 3DS
Price: $29.99 / £25.99

Games-Like-Stardew-Valley

Seeing as Harvest Moon started this whole thing, you might be wondering why there isn’t a Harvest Moon game on this list of games like Stardew Valley. There is, in fact. The latest installment in the Harvest Moon series, which arrived for the 3DS in 2017, is regarded as a wonderful game. It is named Story of Seasons. In spite of its cute and twee title, Season: Trio of Towns is everything that it claims to be. Through the story, you are supposed to grow from being a young and inexperienced farmer to having a bustling and successful plot of land. Pacing is one of Trio of Towns’s strengths. As soon as you begin feeling bored, new towns, people, and gameplay mechanics are introduced.

9. Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale

Available on: PC
Price: $19.99 / £12.99

Games-Like-Stardew-Valley

It might be one of the oldest games on this list, but that doesn’t stop Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale from being an absolute joy and a great contender for a list of games like Stardew Valley. This cult classic Japanese indie tells the story of Recette and Tear, two business partners threw together with their own requirements for needing to earn some dosh. Rather than farming, here you’re managing a retail store, which still gives you the same scheduling and time management mechanics, just without the adorable animals. Between bartering with customers, you’ll also be roaming around in dungeons to find new loot to stock your shop with.

10. Slime Rancher

Available on: Xbox One, PC , PS4
Price: $19.99 / £14.99 on PC, $19.99 / £15.99 on Xbox One

Games-Like-Stardew-Valley

Slime Rancher does not grow crops, but you harvest poop, called plorts in-game, from cute, bouncy, little slimes themed around different animals or objects, from tabby cats to Bulbasaur-like Tangle Slimes. The Plort Market lets you trade plorts, where profitable types fluctuate and change just like a stock market for poop. All your Slimes live together in hutches as well, usually separated by section to prevent them from eating each other, or forming hybrids with creatures of another species. There’s nothing utterly adorable about Tabby Slimes unless the plots they came up with aren’t worth, well, plotting anymore. The truth is, I am an evil, heartless, (rich) monster. Despite its differences from Stardew Valley, it is just as idle, adorable, and fun that you can’t help but sink countless hours into.

11. Staxel

Available on: PC
Price: $19.99 / £14.99

Games-Like-Stardew-Valley

Staxel is a blocky RPG with a stunning, cuboid-themed world that’s what you get if you combine Stardew Valley with Minecraft (other than the Farming Valley mod). A number of features of Minecraft are seamlessly incorporated into Stardew, like its crafting features, aesthetics, and creative freedom. Unlike Stardew Valley, you get to actually put a dog during the first week. Moreover, tasks are faster, which means you only have to water plants every now and then rather than every waking moment.

12. Farm Together

Available on: PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, XboxOne
Price: $19.99

Games-Like-Stardew-Valley

A small family farm is maintained in Stardew Valley; Farm Together provides profit opportunities for large corporations. Imagine llamas and cursed pumpkins and sharks as some of the crops and livestock you can raise, and only the size and your coin budget will limit your farm’s size. Other players can offer their help if they’re feeling generous, and you can hire farmhands to help out. In the game, you need to harvest your wasabi crop at 3 am every night to unlock new seeds, so bad planning means it’s necessary for you to do the same every day. In spite of the vicious cycle, it’s oh so satisfying.
